Minister Humphries opens upgraded Clarrie Hall Dam

A $7.3 MILLION upgrade to Clarrie Hall Dam, which will guarantee the safety of local communities and property downstream of the dam in the event of an extreme flood, was opened on Thursday.

NSW Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water Kevin Humphries and Member for Lismore Thomas George opened the upgrade at an official ceremony on site.

Mr Humphries said the major upgrade had increased the spillway 'scapacity to ensure the dam could safely pass extreme flood events.

"The upgrade to this dam now means Clarrie Hall Dam can pass floods many times greater than the largest flood on record," Mr Humphries said.

Mr George said the NSW Government contributed $1.3 million to help Tweed Shire Council meet the cost of the upgrade.
