Fisherman found dead on Daintree

UPDATE: The body of a missing man has been found on the edge of the Daintree River at Cape Tribulation after a police renewed search efforts on Sunday.

Detectives at the scene said the elderly man had an existing medical condition and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

There was no sign of a crocodile attack despite earlier fears.

EARLIER: A SEARCH is underway for a man reported missing after fishing on the Daintree River at Cape Tribulation.

Police say the man was fishing near the Creb Track yesterday afternoon, and they were contacted when his belongings were found at the river’s edge.

A land search started late yesterday with a helicopter and several boats also assisting, however the man has still not been located.

The search was scaled back overnight and water police remain on the scene.

The search has restarted this morning.
