'Monster' hail, wild winds lash parts of Darling Downs

LARGE hailstones and damaging winds have smashed into parts of the Darling Downs after severe thunderstorms swept over the region.

"Monster" hailstones and heavy rainfall was reported at Leyburn, Clifton and Allora about 4pm yesterday.

Car windows were smashed and properties damaged during the storm.

Up to 45mm fell in just half an hour in parts south of Toowoomba.

Strong winds brought down trees at Yarraman and areas north-west of Toowoomba.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs today with the chance of a thunderstorm late this afternoon.
