More social and affordable housing in the Tweed
The Minister for Finance and Services Greg Pearce and the Member for Tweed Geoff Provest have announced details of public housing properties to be transferred to local community housing providers.
On Track Community Programs has been allocated 18 properties in Tweed Heads South to manage and maintain.
Mr Pearce said the providers would use the transferred assets as leverage to build more social and affordable housing in their areas.
Mr Provest welcomed the news of the allocation of properties in his electorate.
"Community housing providers play an important role in delivering solutions for social housing tenants around the state," he said.
"I congratulate On Track on their successful application and look forward to seeing more affordable housing being made available for the most disadvantaged among my constituents."
Mr Pearce said a review by the Government had resulted in new arrangements to protect the Government's interest in the transferred properties.
"The review made significant recommendations to strengthen aspects for community housing providers, including the requirement to place applicants on the social housing register and reporting procedures," he said.
"The key amendments to the agreements require providers to meet their leveraging targets, rather than to use their best endeavours to do so.
"The NSW Government continues to support initiatives that lead to the expansion and sustainability of the social housing sector," Mr Pearce said.
