Motor at Condong sugar mill explodes causing fire
FIREFIGHTERS were in the line of fire when a motor at Condong Sugar Mill exploded on Wednesday night.
About 11pm the firefighters were inspecting a smoky room after an automatic fire alarm was activated.
It was lucky they were there.
"White and blue flames started shooting out of it," Murwillumbah NSW Fire and Rescue captain Greg Hayes said.
"The boys isolated it and then extinguished it.
"It could have turned into something nasty."
Tweed NSW Fire and Rescue station officer Steve Sharp said it was a high voltage pump explosion.
