Motorcyclist clocks 230km and evades police pursuit

A MOTORCYCLIST travelling at speeds allegedly over 200km has evaded police.

On Saturday evening police engaged in a pursuit with a motor bike on the Pacific Hwy, Clothiers Creek about 6.30pm.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command duty officer Darren Steel said highway officers on patrol spotted the Japanese model road bike exceeding the speed limit.

Although Inspector Steel would not reveal the speed it is understood the rider was clocked travelling at 184km.

"A pursuit was commenced for 2km," he said.

"The cyclist then over took several vehicles and the police terminated the pursuit due to the danger."

Insp Steel said the red and white bike was seen a short time later by other highway patrol officers some 20km south.

"It was seen doing high speeds again and then wasn't sighted again," he said.

Police were unable to get a registration plate.

It is believed the driver exceeded speeds of 230km shortly before the pursuit was terminated.
