Motorcyclist dies from horrific injuries

THE motorcyclist in his 50s involved in a collision on Summerland Way near Whiporie has died at Gold Coast University Hospital.

The man lost part of his right arm and right leg as a result of the crash with a Sedan 37km south of Casino yesterday afternoon.  

He also sustained significant head injuries.

Richmond Local Area Command Acting Inspector Russell Ewing said police were called to the scene just after 2pm.

"The rider was travelling south on Summerland Way," he said.

"He then collided with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

"After hitting the vehicle the rider has slid along the road for about 100 metres, and suffered those injuries."

Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter arrived on scene around 3pm and airlifted the man to Gold Coast University Hospital.

The driver of the Sedan was taken to Casino Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The results of the tests are unknown at this stage.
