Motorcyclist hits guardrail and dies in horror 24 hours
A MOTORBIKE rider was killed and two others suffered injuries in a hellish 24 hours for riders on Tweed roads.
Yesterday, a man was flung to his death from his motorbike after hitting a guardrail on the Tweed Valley Way, Yelgun, near Crabbes Creek Rd.
A police spokeswoman said the man died at the scene and was yet to be formally identified.
The Tweed Valley Way was closed for hours while police waited for the Police Crash Investigation Unit to arrive from Ballina.
In a separate incident less than 13 hours before, a motorcyclist was taken to Tweed Hospital in a serious condition with spinal and head injuries.
The man, 33, was travelling on an unregistered motorbike on Tweed Coast Way, Hastings Point, when he hit a road sign.
Inspector Brendon Cullen said the driver lost control of the bike while negotiating a corner.
It is believed the man suffered extensive injuries to his back.
"Police believe speed was a factor in the crash," Insp Cullen said.
It was unknown if the man was licensed to drive the motorbike.
In a third incident paramedics were called to Tomewin Rd, Murwil- lumbah, to a car and motorbike crash about 2.50pm yesterday.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the motorbike rider was taken to Murwillumbah Hospital with a fractured arm.
It is believed the motorcyclist was a Murwillumbah man.
It has been a horror past few months on Tweed roads.
Just last month elderly Queensland couple John and Doreen Proellocks were killed in a head-on collision on the Pacific Hwy at Chinderah.
Yesterday's death on the Tweed Valley Way was the 117th fatality for NSW this year.
