Hassall Free Homes owner Mary Hassall said the man was very lucky.

"I'm just glad he didn't have a lot of damage," Mrs Hassall said.

"When we went out to the car his eye was actually resting on the steel."

She said the man had also collided with two large steel beams which were resting on stands between the fence and the home.

The man was lifted out of the car onto a stretcher before the house was raised so the car could be towed away.

He suffered a deep cut near his eye.
