MP in hot water over donation
THE State Opposition has called for Tweed MP Geoff Provest to be sacked from his position as parliamentary secretary for police and emergency services after it was revealed he accepted an illegal political donation.
Opposition Leader John Robertson exposed the $2500 donation from property developer Power Property Trust in question time on Thursday and called for his sacking.
In NSW, political candidates are not allowed to accept donations from property developers or any over $2000.
Mr Provest has blamed the party volunteer appointed to control his finances and has now appointed the Nationals' official agent instead.
"I have always been full and frank with my parliamentary affairs," Mr Provest said.
"My former agent was a volunteer within the party organisation and was not an expert in the very complex legal issues surrounding the new legislation."
Premier Barry O'Farrell said he would get further advice from the Election Funding Authority before any decision.
