Member of Parliament Martin (Marty) Hunt provided Year 12 Noosa District State High School Social and Community Studies students with some interesting insights into his role within the community.

Mr Hunt assisted the students with this term’s assessment piece whereby they are to plan and organise a local event celebrating indigenous culture and art.

Mr Hunt also provided some career advice to the students in the class who are interested in pursuing a career in the police force, as Mr Hunt was a police officer himself for 30 years before serving the electorate of Nicklin in Parliament.

The students also enjoyed learning about the role of politicians and the workings of Parliament.

Mr Hunt encouraged students to participate in community events and to value the lifestyle enjoyed on the Sunshine Coast.

The Year 12 students were appreciative that Mr Hunt was able to take some time out of his busy schedule to visit the class.

Year 12 student Madeline Bryne was surprised to learn that politicians were normal and approachable.

“I thought he would be boring, but it’s refreshing to see that politicians can understand and relate to teenagers,” Miss Byrne said.
