'Mr Sydney' to launch new line of underwear for the gym
ELLEN DeGeneres called him Mr Sydney, now former Warwick Cowboy Matthew Chapman is following in her footsteps.
Mr Chapman came runner up in a competition to become the face of Ellen's own brand of underwear and the experience inspired him to bring his own ideas to life.
Yesterday the Sydney-based personal trainer held a launch party to celebrate his own line of underwear made specifically for the gym.
PocJox are sports underwear designed with a pocket to hold your mobile phone so you can listen to music while you work out hands free.
Since becoming a personal trainer on the Sunshine Coast before moving to Sydney, Mr Chapman said he was surprised there was not anything like PocJox currently on the market.
"From my own observations in the gym, I realised a lot of people had issues with phones falling out of pockets and distracting people from their workouts," he said.
"I was really surprised to find that there was nothing like my idea already on the market.
"Since then I've put a lot of hours and effort into the concept and am confident I have a very high quality product that people need and will love."
The former Assumption College student was crowned Mr Sydney on the Ellen DeGeneres Show two years ago in a competition to become the face and body of her new underwear line.
He said it was that experience that inspired him to pursue his own product.
"I hadn't thought about it until that moment," he said.
"But I thought, 'If she could do it, why not me?'"
Mr Chapman said it was a great feeling to finally reach the point where he could announce the launch of his own creation.
"It's one thing to come up with the idea but entirely another to bring that idea to life," he said.
"It will be extremely satisfying to see that initial drop of 2200 pieces."
Working late nights and early mornings on the project, while also juggling raising eight-month-old son Rafa, has paid off for the entrepreneur who has a patent on the design.
ANZ Bank has jumped on as a sponsor of PocJox, conducting advertising and case studies for the product in the lead-up to the product launch.
The budding entrepreneur said the launch would be just the beginning as he looked to take his product to the rest of the world.
"The PocJox website will be live for the launch," he said.
"It will be available for purchase on the website and will start shipping internationally."
