Multiple reports of bright burning light in the sky

THERE have been multiple reports of a bright burning light in the sky on the Mid North Coast this evening.

Witnesses reported seeing an amazingly bright white ball falling to earth with a tail on it that quickly turned orange in the night sky around 6pm.

There have been multiple reports to police of flares spotted out at sea off Coffs Harbour, Taree and Port Macquarie.

There have also been similar reports on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and in Toowoomba.

It is understood the object may have been a meteorite.
