Mullum jokers add extra show

CROWDS have taken strongly to Women Like Us, the comedy show from Mullumbimby funny ladies Mandy Nolan and Ellen Briggs.

The duo has added a second Currumbin RSL show in response to an overwhelming demand for tickets.

Nolan and Briggs will also be taking the show to the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne Comedy Festival this year.

Briggs said just getting two “40-something” mothers out of Mullumbimby was a big feat in itself.

“It’s not as easy for us to tour as it is for male comedians,” Briggs said.

“Men on the circuit can up and leave for weeks at a time.

“But as busy hands on-mothers, Mandy and I really have a lot of juggling to do to manage our careers.”

Being women in an overwhelmingly male industry, having seven children (and a few ex-husbands) between them, there’s no doubt the duo have plenty of inspiration for a hilarious show.

Those real-life experiences will shape much of the sets of each comedian.

Briggs and Nolan will each perform a separate set for half of the show.

Nolan said their different characters would make for a well-rounded night of hilarity.

“We’re not rarefied trophy wives,” Nolan said.

“We are the kind of women who know how to put up our own shelves. We just don’t dust them.”

Nolan has recently finished a national tour promoting her third memoir, Home Truths.

She took this to Melbourne Comedy Festival, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Noosa and Caloundra.

Briggs has been a national finalist for RAW Comedy at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and winner of the Foxtel Comedy Channel’s Be a Comedian competition.

Both women are undeniably funny in their own ways – and together, they offer a show that’s sure to inspire belly-laughs.
