Multimillion-dollar home's 'garage sale' made in heaven

A RARE collection of "priceless" art, gathered over three decades to decorate a multimillion-dollar Sunshine Beach mansion will soon go under the hammer.

Angela and David Wright recently sold their "well-known" mansion at 1/37 Duke St, dubbed Mykonos due to its Mediterranean features, and are awaiting settlement.

On Sunday, their unique collection of artwork, furniture, statues and memorabilia, "must be sold".

Mrs Wright said she felt lucky to have been able to have acquired such a collection, with many items original pieces.

It was her wish that new buyers would treasure the items as much as they had.

"This house is like living in a piece of art," Mrs Wright said.

"We have been so blessed in our life, it's been a joy. It's a lifetime of collecting.

"It will be a very hard goodbye, these pieces deserve to be treasured."

Mrs Wright said she was unable to put a price on the collection but admitted she did have a favourite.

"Oh there is so many, one is this marble Buddha statue. It's a solid perfectly carved piece of marble," she said.

"To us he is like a small, fat child. He meditates over the pool and ground. He came with the house and has been there for 30 years."

Charleston's Fine Art Auctions will handle the on-site auction from 11.30am, with viewing from 9.30am.

Auctioneer Danny Taibel said the collection was so large he was unable to price it.

Mr Taibel said the house was an enviable "icon" to locals making in a "very rare" auction.

He said they were expecting between 300-500 onlookers on site throughout the day.

"We are pumped," Mr Taibel said.

"It's the first time for us selling a contents auction in this suburb. We're thinking hundreds will come along.

"People in the area know this home, it's a very unique mansion.

A "huge" collection of paintings from local artist John Cumming is on offer, as are the works of David Bromley and Pro Hart, as well as furnishings, Aboriginal art, fine art and general household items.

"That stone Buddha statue is the most beautiful piece in the home," he said.

"The David Bromley piece is highly-sought after, it depicts the artist at his best.

"A designer three-piece lounge, they would have paid big money for that.

"It was an entertainer's home."
