WATCH: Mums wear babies in new fitness trend

COMBINE fun, fitness, mums and babies and you get a new dance trend that is proving popular in Calliope.

Dance Kix offers the Mums Bounce Back classes once a week, where eight mums gather, with babies strapped in, for a dance workout.

Instructor and mother-of-two, Donna Hann said the class was popular because of the children and baby-friendly atmosphere.

"I thought of the idea when I was pregnant with my second baby, I thought what a great idea to wear your baby, bond with them at the same time and get some exercise done too," Mrs Hann said.

The quirky exercise, and parenting bonding activity is fully choreographed by Mrs Hann.

"I choreograph the dances and exercises around wearing a baby.

"There's all different levels. Sometimes if the mums are learning a new dance they will take off their baby to learn the moves first, then when they're comfortable they will wear their baby again," she said.

Babies are mostly well behaved during the dance, enjoying the steady bounce and closeness with their mums.

Dance Kix offers classes in Calliope and Boyne Island, but they hope to expand to Gladstone soon too.
