Mur’bah barber cops it from mates after KRudd drops in

KEVIN Rudd's unscheduled visit to Murwillumbah resulted in hijinks in Steve Manning's barber shop that have gone national after the Prime Minister's wife posted a picture online.

While Mr Rudd and sitting Labor MP Justine Elliot waited for the media bus to arrive at Condong Bowling Club on Monday afternoon, they grabbed a cup of coffee in a Murwillumbah cafe.

Afterwards Justine's husband Craig decided to introduce the PM to his barber Steve at his Murwillumbah St salon.

Steve said he had packed up to go home when in walked the occupant of the highest office in the land.

"He just wanted to sit down and have a chat," Steve said with a laugh while recalling the meeting.

Word soon got out among the township.

"It was bloody embarrassing. There were people everywhere taking photos," Steve says.

The pair discussed how his business was going, the rugby league memorabilia on his shop wall and politics.

For a laugh, the PM's wife Therese Rein had Kevin pose in the barber chair to pretend he was getting a trim from Steve.

She posted the pictures online to the PM's Instagram account which has seen Steve cop a lot of ribbing.

"I've even been copping crap from mates in Sydney," Steve says.

He said Therese had already been in contact by email thanking him for the picture opportunity and promising to send him a copy.
