Mur’bah movie house gets into the spirit of Chinese New Year
TO get into the spirit of the Chinese New Year, the Regent Cinema at Murwillumbah will be holding a special screening of a Chinese feature film.
The 2011 film One Mile Above, directed by Du Jiayi, is an 89 minute road movie.
Following the sudden death of his older brother, Chang Shu-hao decides to travel by bicycle to Lhasa and Tibet, in memory of his brother. It is a ride of 1800 km at altitudes of up to 4,000 metres.
During the journey Shu-hao finds himself tested to the limits of his endurance and sanity, but he pushes on regardless. He travels through deep snow, meets wild mastiffs and encounters hostility from locals in order to reach Lhasa and fulfil his brother's dream of making the journey.
An inspiring story of endurance and an adult right of passage, the film is based on the book by Taiwan writer Hsieh Wang-lin which chronicled his own 60-day cycle trip in 2004.
The film, with the background of the jaw-dropping scenery of the provinces of Yunnan and Tibet, is the winner of several international awards.
The film will be screened for the first time in Australia at the Regent on February 10 for one screening only at 6.30pm. $12 Adults/$10 Concession/$8 Kids
For this special occasion, traditional Chinese New Year's dumplings, if pre-ordered, will be available prior to the screening ($7 per portion, 3 days advance order essential).
