Mur’bah muso takes people’s choice award in competition

MURWILLUMBAH born and bred country musician Paul Cowderoy is continuing to dominate the music industry after taking People's Choice winner at the International Songwriting Competition.

The songwriter and singer said he won the award along side artists like Guy Sebastian and Kimbra.

"I'm still a bit shocked by it," he said laughing.

"It's hard to understand how it happened because I wasn't pushing people to vote for me, I'd only mentioned it."

Cowderoy said the competition was the biggest of its kind in the world and it was a great privilege to be able to win one of the awards.

The popular musician put it down to his fans in America and here at home.

"Country music is so big over there," Cowderoy said.

"It's certainly opened up a few doors for me."

His win came from scores of fans voting for him.

"They don't release the stats but I understand it was well over 10,000 votes," he said.

"It was quite surprising."

Cowderoy said the competition was the biggest of its kind in the world and it was a great privilege to be able to win one of the awards.

The musician has now started a new band now called Fair Grounds and they're heading to Nashville to record at Ocean Way studios.
