Murwillumbah garage destroyed in fire

A GARAGE in Murwillumbah has been gutted by fire overnight.

About 11.20pm Tuesday, emergency services were called to the scene on Riverview St, a Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said.

On arrival, fire fighters found a garage well alight.

"There were some initial concerns that there were possibly people inside," the spokeswoman said.

"But everyone was accounted for."

The garage was completely destroyed by the fire, which is not believed to have spread to any nearby structures.

Fire and Rescue crews from Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads were in attendance, assisted by the Rural Fire Service.

No further details were available on what caused the fire, or whether it was being treated as suspicious.
