Murwillumbah U14 boys shine
ORGANISER, Keith Wyatt, was amazed by the high standard of bowling, fielding, batting and sportsmanship displayed by the six teams contesting the Murwillumbah Under 14 Years Boys Cricket Invitational Carnival being played at Murwillumbah's Rabjones Oval.
The carnival has attracted three teams from Northern NSW and another three from south-east Queensland.
A Murwillumbah Invitation XI is matching skills out on the green sward with Lismore, Ballina-Byron, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast and Caloundra.
"There are a lot of very talented players on show here but what impresses us the most is the high standard of behaviour being shown by all the teams," Mr Wyatt said.
The tournament opened yesterday with three 45-overs per side.
Murwillumbah's campaign commenced with a heavy defeat at the hands on Sunshine Coast who knocked up 163 all out and later dismissed the locals for 119 in which Tom O'Keefe top scored with a dogged 21.
In the other matches, Lismore belted 9-263 and had Caboolture back in the pavilion for 110 and Ballina knocked up a healthy 5-252 and quickly ran through the Caloundra batting line-up which could only manage a disastrous 55.
Another three 45-over games will be played today and the tournament rounds off tomorrow with three action-packed Twenty/20 matches.
