Music star Pete Murray still nervous in front of cameras

HE MAY be one of the biggest drawcards for a Sunshine Coast produced and filmed movie, but Pete Murray is still worried about being the weakest link.

The Aria Award nominated-musician is on the Sunshine Coast for his acting debut in Thicker Than Water: a drama that explores the fragility of family. Murray, whose 2003 album Feeler has gone six-times platinum, said he had originally been offered a smaller role, but chose a more complex character in recovering drug addict D.

"I thought if I wanted to play someone, I wanted to play a character that was edgier, or just different to who I was," he said.

And although he has played to packed audiences around Australia, Mr Murray said getting in front of the camera still made him nervous.

"I think I was a bit nervous about coming in and acting with these guys, not that everyone is super-experienced, but way more than I am," he said.

"I was nervous about being the weakest link."

Filmed almost entirely in Caloundra and Kawana, Thicker than Water is being produced by Sunshine Coast actress and producer Madeleine Kennedy, fresh from her role in local slasher film Charlie's Farm. After meeting at an acting school in Byron Bay, Kennedy produced Murray's newest music video, which a parody of his hit song Always a Winner, due for release shortly.

Filming for Thicker Than Water is expected to wrap-up next week.
