Mustangs need a repeat

AN outstanding defensive effort which helped Murwillumbah to an upset win over premiers Byron Bay last week is needed again when the Mustangs travel to Ballina to take on the home side in round 15 of the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League tomorrow.

Mustangs' coach Brad Purtell was full of praise for his players after the win, but said the good work would be for nothing if they couldn't back up with a rare away win.

“This game gives us an excellent chance to build some momentum and finish the season strongly,” Purtell said.

“The mood in the club is good after our recent performances and having the same team this week is a bonus, with the players forming some good combinations and working hard for each other defensively.

“Ballina won't be a pushover and will be playing with pride and out to defend their own turf, but our boys have a degree of self-belief now.

“We have shown that when we concentrate on our game and have all our players on the paddock, we are a very capable side.”

The under-18s start the action at noon, followed by reserves, with the A-grade kicking off at 2.45pm.
