Mystery remains as missing service medals returned

THE grateful son of a Second World War veteran has been reunited with his father's missing service medals.

Strangers discovered nine medals in their letter box at Toongabbie last week.

Inquiries revealed they belonged to Ronald James Taylor, who served in the Australian army between 1938 and 1945.

His son Stephen, a Vietnam veteran, collected the medals from the Parramatta station on Wednesday after his wife Gail recognised them on the news.

How the medals ended up in the letterbox remains a mystery.
