Nando's cop public backlash due to Bowen's 'borrowed' mango

NANDO'S are copping backlash following a big publicity stunt which revealed that they 'borrowed' Bowen's big mango.

The disappearing mango made national and international headlines after it disappeared overnight on Sunday.

Bowen Tourism Chairman, Paul McLaughlin, originally said there had been no planned maintenance work for the popular tourist attraction.

Early this afternoon Nando's sent out press releases stating they had 'borrowed' the mango.

Nando's also released a video of them removing the mango which has copped criticism for the hoax.

One commenter who goes by the username, antinsanwo, said it was a stupid publicity stunt.

"F**k Nando's and their garbage overpriced food, and their stupid publicity stunt that took up media time, could have done a publicity stunt with a charity or something you f**k heads, didn't need to do this," the post says.

Another commenter, Harry Scells, said he will never eat at Nando's again after the stunt.

"This was so s**t, you ruined an Australian icon just to do some s****y advertising. F**k you Nando's I'm never eating there again," he said.

B.J.Rawson also didn't see the funny side.

"Mango Gate - Stolen Mango think its funny Nando's? No, it's not - you're disrespectful D**k h**ds," the post says.

But others are defending Nando's saying that it was just a bit of harmless fun.

"Calm down people it's not like they slaughtered a bunch of kids and used it as a publicity stunt to let us know they no longer serve children god dammit," pjkirking said.

Craig Taylor is predicting a new Peri-Peri sauce by Nando's.

"The anger being directed at Nando's by keyboard warriors for this stunt is unbelievable," he said.

"I'm predicting that Nando's will announce a new Mango Peri-Peri sauce in the next few weeks. It's a fairly obvious reason for a mango stunt."

Do you think the missing mango stunt was just a bit of harmless fun?
