Neighbourhood centre at work
POTTSVILLE will soon have a brand new, state-of-the-art administration and services building at its neighbourhood centre.
Following the demolition at the end of March of the old administration centre, many people thought services had ceased.
But services are still running full-steam ahead.
Demolition of the building that used to be the headmaster's residence has made room for a project that will include a major upgrade of services.
Manager Angela Maxwell said there had been a popu- lation explosion in the Tweed Coast region that had impacted on community services.
“Strong continued support from the Tweed Shire Council community development staff and incredible assistance from Tweed Shire Council's engineering department and the Planning Reforms Unit has helped bring this wonderful project to fruition,” she said.
“Tweed Shire Council's allocation of funding for main construction phase has ensured the community will have a great asset for the future.”
The Centrelink Agency and main reception is now in the Ebb Tide building, in front of the Tech Centre.
Counselling still operates in one of the demountables and all other administration workers are located in the others.
Volunteers are still actively engaged across all work groups.
