Nepalese kitchen 'the best'

A LITTLE bit of Nepal has brought the attention of food critics across the state to the town of Kingscliff.

Kathmandu Kitchen has been awarded the best subcontinent restaurant in the Northern and New England area from restaurants and catering NSW.

Up against competition from Coffs Harbour to

Moree then up to the border, Shankar Shrestha and his wife Karen have been serving up authentic Nepalese cuisine on Marine Parade for 13 years.

“Kingscliff is our home now so we want to serve up the very best to the people we know here,” Ms Shrestha said.

The award is the restaurant's sixth accolade for food, so what's the secret?

“It sounds corny but people say they really can taste the love.”

This is the theory behind Nepalese food that each ingredient and person involved in the making of each meal is thanked for their contribution.

Every morning Mr Shrestha performs a “gratitude practise” before work to fill the food with light, such is his belief.
