Never mind dad, mum is the go-to person

SHARE the love, you're killing me.

From the outset I have to tell you I love my boys more than the air that I breathe. That said ...

In the oven I have an apple slice baking, and tea is about 15 minutes away from being ready to plate.

The boys have just jumped out of the bath and I'm vacuuming my bedroom while my husband reclines (deservedly) on the couch awaiting the dinner call.

I'm wondering if it's overly ambitious to tackle stripping the bed, because I do love fresh crisp sheets.

From behind me I hear, "Mum, I'm ready, dry me please" and "My pyjamas are inside out, can you fix it - What's for tea? I'm hungry".

"Can you make me some cordi? I'm thirsty too, mum, mum?"

Right now my head flips off and I'm having an out-of-body experience.

I curtly inform Master 5 that dad is on the couch. Why doesn't he ask dad to help him out?

He's a good boy and happily complies, but he never absorbs that fact for long.

He has two equally capable parents. Why me? Whhhhyyyy?

All my girlfriends who have children express the same grief.

Despite us marrying capable and even intelligent men, our children seem to only see their mothers as useful (I tell you, there are times I'm inclined to agree).

I am the "go-to" for everything, no matter how busy I am or how busy he's not, and for once in his life, it's not his fault.

I'm also expected to frequently engage in two conversations at once and perform the duties of a GPS for random toys, books, shoes, library books and homework folders.

Usually, I am expected to locate said random items at the most inconvenient of times - I can be hanging out laundry, on the phone or even peeing.

I take comfort in the fact I'm not alone. There are millions of women all over the world begging for the same question to be answered: "Why me?"

Is it any wonder I drink?
