New highway exit ramp to open to public on Wednesday

THE official opening of the Kirkwood Rd extension at Tweed Heads will take place tomorrow at 10.30am.

Tweed Shire Council's mayor Barry Longland and representatives of Roads and Maritime Services, construction contractor SEE Civil, the Banora Point and District Residents Association, and the Tweed Heads Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be there to witness the happy event.

The $17 million project, which has been under construction since May 2012, is expected to provide more efficient traffic flow through the busy Tweed Heads South area.

The speed limit on the major thoroughfare has already been lifted back to 100kmh from 80kmh.
