New laws don't stop the boats
EIGHT boats carrying more than 600 people have been intercepted trying to get to Australia this week.
The latest boat, which had 148 asylum seekers on board, was intercepted east of Ashmore Island on Thursday.
The people were to be taken to Christmas Island where their reasons for travel were to be determined.
It comes in the same week the Federal Government officially designated Nauru an offshore processing country.
