Redeveloped foreshore to open
THE redeveloped foreshore of Jack Evans Boat Harbour in the heart of Tweed Heads should be open to the public by Saturday, May 21, Tweed Mayor Kevin Skinner said.
Cr Skinner, who with senior council staff inspected the multi-million dollar project on Tuesday, said he was impressed by the work and the fact the foreshore would be open in time for the Cooly Rocks On Festival in June.
“It will be fantastic. It really looks terrific,” Cr Skinner said.
“I'm told by the people on-site, weather-permitting, they will get all the turf down this week and next week.
“The weekend after this all the fences will be removed.
“It will be ready for everyone to walk around and enjoy for the June long weekend (June 11-13) for Cooly Rocks On.”
Cr Skinner said he was particularly impressed with the disabled ramp, complete with a stainless steel railing that provides access to the beach and with safe blocks in the water for children to play on.
“It is a fantastic concept. It will attract thousands of people,” he said.
“It's very much family-oriented and will be a real drawcard.
“It will attract people from throughout the Tweed shire and people who are holidaying on the Gold Coast.
“Particularly on a windy day they can come over and swim in a protected, tidal lake which is extremely safe.”
Cr Skinner said no date had been set for the official opening.
