New medicos for births and kids

THREE new high-profile medical appointments have been made in our region, in the area of birth and children’s health.

Paediatrician Dr Sanjeev Gupta will join the Murwillumbah Hospital’s children’s ward for clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Simone Hargraves has been appointed as the nurse in charge of the unit.

Their recruitment has come with expansion of the Murwillumbah Hospital’s emergency department to include a new Paediatrics Room which enables children to be treated in comfort over a longer period in emergency, without having to be admitted to hospital.

Dr Gupta told the Tweed Daily News residents were able to get referrals to his clinic, if required, through their regular GP.

He said local GPs had shown great support for the expanded Murwillumbah Hospital service and he was enjoying the community and team spirit of the hospital since his arrival.

Meanwhile, John Flynn Private Hospital has recruited its first female obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Genevieve Bishop to its birthing suites.

Dr Bishop delivered her first patient in October, and has joined practice with Dr Maneesh Singh.
