New spring water operators have high hopes for factory

THE new owners of the Cooroy Mountain Spring Water factory, which has been dormant after receivers moved in over 12 months ago, are hoping to have it operating at full production again in about a month.

Peter Lavin, who also purchased Wimmers soft drinks just over 12 months ago, was advised last week that he had been successful in tendering for the water company's property, plant and equipment, just outside Cooroy township.

Already, Mr Lavin's staff have been conducting interviews with potential staff, including former workers who lost their jobs when the factory closed, with the aim of creating up to 25 jobs.

"It's good news - it's good for the town, and good for us," Mr Lavin said about the water company purchase.

"We're keen to get cracking. We're hoping to be up and running at maximum production in four to five weeks, hopefully sooner than that."

"The staff are really excited. We've already had the ex-staff coming in to enquire about positions."

The Cooroy Mountain Spring Water purchase included a 48ha property on Cooroy Mountain Rd, along with a 3000sq m factory, office block, manager's residence and warehouse.

"We'll be starting from zero," Mr Lavin said.

"Water is a thing of the future - we'll do nutrient water and flavoured water down the track - but it's a premium water, bottled at the source, with very little processing.

"We're quite excited about it. It was a really good seller prior to it going under."
