New Year's Day family assault

A BANORA Point man was assaulted yesterday by another man believed to be his son.

The victim was punched in the head and was taken by ambulance to The Tweed Hospital, Tweed Heads Police Inspector Greg Jago said.

“About 3.50pm there was a domestic argument and as a result a Banora Point man has been conveyed to hospital suffering an injury to his head,” Insp Jago said.

“A man in his late 20s is assisting police with their investigations to determine what happened.”

Although originally reported as a stabbing, Insp Jago said this was not true.

“He was punched,” he said adding people need to remember “one punch can kill.”

Insp Jago could not confirm if the man they were questioning was the victim’s son.

“It is subject to investigation.”
