Street brawl & bouncer slap latest on Byron's assault list
JONSON St was the scene of two assaults in the early hours of today, sparking a renewed call from police for CCTV cameras in the town.
Just before 1am, a 19-year-old Lennox Head woman was alleged to have slapped a bouncer outside Cheeky Monkeys after he refused to let her in after an earlier incident at the venue.
Police are still investigating the incident.
About two hours later, just after 3am, three men sitting outside the Noodle Box were approached by a group of three men described as being in their late teens.
The two groups argued until the teenagers attacked them, leading to a "brawl" in the street between the six men.
The teens ran off and had not been identified.

The assaults come as pressure grows on Byron Bay venues to consider their methods of promoting drinking and national media focuses on the incidents of alcohol-related violence in the town, which a senior officer this week said was as bad as the worst parts of Sydney.
Ballina MP Don Page has warned the State Government will step in if the town's 71 licenced venues - 25 of which have permits for late trading - do not resolve the problem, and the Office of Liquor, Gaming, and Racing has issued "show cause" notices to the Buddha Bar, Cheeky Monkeys, Cocomangas, Aquarius Backpackers and Woodys Surf Shack over concerns their promotions encouraged alcohol abuse.
