No bail for man on robbery charge

A MAN was refused bail in Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday charged with the armed robbery of the National Australia Bank in Tweed Heads South last year.

The court heard Rodney Hoole is a drug addict who lives with his mother and has a lengthy history with the courts despite being just 20 years old.

Police allege Hoole entered the bank on Minjungbal Dr around 10am on Tuesday December 20, 2011 carrying what appeared to be a double barrel shotgun covered in a pillowslip.

They believe he demanded cash from bank staff, before fleeing on foot with a sum of money.

Hoole's defence lawyer said his client was prepared to report to police every day and agree to a curfew.

But Magistrate Jeff Linden wasn't convinced.

Magistrate Linden told the court Hoole had a history of failing to appear in court and breaching bail and was on a good behaviour bond at the time of the offence.

He said the prosecution case was strong with unidentified DNA material as well as CCTV footage and for those reasons, bail would be refused.

Hoole will appear in Lismore District Court on May 8 via videolink.
