No joke! Hilarious act a first for beloved pub

ONE year after taking over Sandy Creek Pub, Karen and Kev Kiley are breaking new ground at the beloved venue.

The pub will host a comedy show for the first time tonight, with Australian comedian Austen Tayshus set to entertain the crowd in the pub's newly renovated beer garden.

Mrs Kiley said they were eager to try something new at the venue.

"Everybody has music but we thought we'd have something different. We're looking outside the square," she said.

The name Austen Tayshus will probably ring a bell, as he's famous for his hilarious Australiana skit, which plays on the names of icons from our great nation and left everyone asking, "How much can a Koala bear?"

Mrs Kiley said she was excited to put on the show and it was part of their plan to host more events at the pub.

"We wanted to make Sandy Creek a popular place for young and old, where they can have a few drinks and some entertainment," she said.

"We've had a lot of positive comments about what we're doing out in the beer garden."

Alongside the show, visitors can also enjoy a meal of roast pork from the spit included in the ticket price of $30.

Drinks will be at bar prices, but people won't have to interrupt the show to grab a tipple.

"We'll have some waiters going around so people can stay seated and we'll serve their drinks in the beer garden," Mrs Kiley said.

Meals will be served from 6pm so they're wrapped up by the time Austen Tayshus takes the stage at 8pm.

The comedy show will run for 90 minutes.

Phone 46613413 to book tickets. They can be picked up on the night.

Keep an eye on the Darling Downs Hotel Facebook page for upcoming events, including Double Jack performing on February 9 and the popular pig races returning on March 16.
