Nortec smashes 1000 jobs in 100 days target

THE state of the economy has not impacted on employment agency Nortec's ability to find jobs for more than 1000 people.

Nortec marketing co-ordinator Michelle Dowding said it was a great feeling to have placed 1131 job seekers into work across Northern NSW in the past 100 days.

"Work can make a huge difference in a person," she said.

"Feeling like a valuable community member, being able to pay your bills are vital ingredients for confidence and happiness.

"We love watching the transformations in people when they get back on their feet and into work."

A total of 181 job seekers were placed into positions on the Tweed.

One of those was Daniel Woods, who said he was grateful to have been part of the 1000 jobs in 100 days campaign.

"I've always loved work and money," he said. "So working's the way to go. Nortec went above and beyond to help me get a position." The IT junkie now holds a position with Dick Smith Electronics.

Ms Dowding said some of the clients had barriers that needed to be addressed first, such as mental health issues, substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness.

"For others it can be a lack of workplace skills, self-esteem and confidence or not having a car or licence."

Now the campaign is successfully done and dusted for a third year, it is business as usual.

"We'll still be placing as many local jobseekers into work as we can," Ms Dowding said.

"For any jobseeker, finding the job you really want is hard, but every part-time or casual job or work experience becomes a stepping stone that provides skills and experience that can lead towards that goal."
