Bond blitzes college rivals

BOND University has taken out the 2011 Northern University Games beating rivals Griffith University, University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.

Sports officer Ryan Lenegan said the win was an indication of the effort and training put in by more than 130 students in numerous sports including netball, tennis, soccer and touch football.

“This year it came down to organisation and training; our students put a lot of sweat into getting ready for the competition and this has well and truly paid off,” Mr Lenegan said.

“The training was very intensive and because there is a qualification policy in place for teams wishing to attend the Australian University Games there was more motivation for the students to perform at their peak.

“This year our students walked away with gold medals for mixed netball, golf, women’s tennis and men’s squash. This combined with our silver and bronze medals is truly something for the Bond community to proud of.”

The students will go on to compete in the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast from September 25-30.
