AT almost the same time Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge celebrated the birth of the newest edition to the royal family, a baby boy, a Tweed couple also welcomed their first child.

Just two minutes after the royal birth, at 1:32am, Sarshee Elliot and Ben Pocock celebrated the arrival, Isla, a health baby girl.

Miss Elliot and Mr Pocock, who are engaged to be married, were both very happy the birth went well and their bundle of joy shares a birthday with a royal.

"We didn't care what sex, we just wanted a healthy baby," Miss Elliot said.

"The fact she was born only minutes before or after is a great story to tell her as she gets older,"

Isla was born 12 days early, weighing just less than eight pounds; she gave her mother quite a long labour which began lunchtime Sunday.

His Royal Highness Prince of Cambridge, as the newborn royal is known, weighed a touch over eight pounds and was thought to be about a week overdue, which is perfectly normal.
