FIONA Lale is the envy of all her friends and now, every Ipswich woman.

Her wardrobe is the size of a double garage and houses some 500 pairs of shoes and more than 1000 outfits in her Camira home she shares with husband David.

"This is my dream come true," Mrs Lale said as she whisked around the room.

The custom-built wardrobe is an extension of the couple's home and rivals Carrie Bradshaw's closet any day with a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling and an entire wall dedicated to heels.

"My mother Robin Allingham was Miss Queensland in 1956 and a model," Mrs Lale said.

"She always instilled in me to present myself nicely.

"It was a self-esteem thing."

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra viola player of 23 years has one section dedicated to glam gowns, mostly black silk, velvet and sequinned numbers.

"I needed to have nice clothes for concerts and things like that," she said.

Mrs Lale's current role as artist liaison requires her to present flowers to artists on stage.

"So I've got an excuse to wear all these things," she said.

She said she had been collecting gowns for 30 years since she began working.

"I never throw anything out and look after everything," she said.

"To have your wardrobe organised is every girl's dream."

Her collection includes Italian brands Enzo Angiolini and Luciano Barachini and some department store finds, but is mostly one-off pieces from boutique stores. Some designer gowns she has even scored at Lifeline. Her husband needed no convincing when she started planning the wardrobe.

"Dave was more than happy for me to have this to get all the 'junk' out of the rest of the house," Mrs Lale said. "Thankfully Dave is a jeans and t-shirt boy."
