NSW police angry over govt approval

THE northern region NSW police association is furious legislation reducing police entitlements under the Death and Disability scheme has been approved by the State Government.

Executive member Tony King said the legislation did nothing to address the fact that police continue to get injured and only took away the protections provided to them.

"We'd like to see the government come back to the table and talk to us," he said.

Tweed Nationals MP Geoff Provest said the current scheme provided a disincentive for officers to return to work by topping up the statutory rate salaries and making lump sum benefits payable on medical discharge.
