Nurse ratio promises
TWEED MP Geoff Provest does not support Labor's pledge for three-to-one patient-to-nurse ratios.
He said the government had committed to a different system to meet the hospital's demands, even though unions had campaigned for the extra staff.
"I do not support a nurse to patient ratio, because we're really committed to the NHPPD (Nursing Hours Per Patient Day) formula, which I must add, the previous Labor Government signed on (to)," Mr Provest said.
"It provides for more flexibility in terms of staffing and meeting the needs of the patients needs.
"It allows staff to roster hours around busy times and patient's needs."
Labor pledged new nurses will be recruited in the first term of government and the staffing levels would be legislated for emergency and paediatrics wards.
General Secretary of the Nurse's Association said Brett Holmes said:
"After four years of lobbying the Liberal-Nationals Government for improved mandated ratios to no avail, NSW Labor has recognised the vital role of nurse-to-patient ratios ...."
