MOST of the border region's best surfers rested easy yesterday as a lay day was called in the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro.
All of the 12 competitors from the region, stretching from the Gold Coast to Lennox Head, who surfed in round one will get a chance to continue in the competitions.
Bede Durbidge (North Stradbroke Island), Mitch Crews (Currumbin), Kieren Perrow (Byron Bay), Chelsea Hedges (Tweed Heads), Stephanie Gilmore (Tweed Heads), and former Cabarita girl Sarah Mason have high-pressure round two heats to get through when competition resumes, while the rest have gone straight to round three by winning their opening heats.
Durbidge takes on Port Macquarie wildcard Matt Banting, Crews must upset Avoca's Adrian Buchan and Perrow takes on Brazil's Alejo Muniz in the men's event.
Former world champion Hedges surfs against Hawaii's Alana Blanchard and Gilmore takes on Mason, who has moved back to her native New Zealand, in the Roxy Pro.
