O'Farrell accused of 'dirty deal'

NSW Greens MP John Kaye has accused Premier Barry O'Farrell of doing "a dirty deal" with the Shooters Party to allow hunters into NSW national parks in exchange for their support to sell off the state's power assets.

On Wednesday afternoon the Game and Feral Animal Control Act was changed so licensed shooters could cull pests in 79 of the state's 799 national parks and reserves.

Mr O'Farrell described the amendment as a logical extension of the existing policy and a sensible measure in the eradication of pests known to damage and kill native wildlife.

The changes coincide with the Premier's push to privatise the government-owned electricity industry.

Both the shooters and National Party have recently flagged their support for the legislation.

Dr Kaye described privatisation as "voodoo economics".

He said the coalition and shooters had launched NSW down a "slippery slope of poles and wires privatisation".
