Olympic Games organisers says country needs 'more energy'

IT IS less than five months from the Rio Olympic Games, but with only 47 per cent of tickets sold, fans and locals need to show more enthusiasm, organisers say.

Rio 2016 spokesman Mario Andrada said organisers need to inspire more energy among locals, but is confident the country will embrace the extravaganza.

At the moment Rio's aquatic centre appears unfinished, the seats are in plastic and many more are yet to be installed in the 18,000-seat stadium. Guard rails are yet to be put in place and workers are still putting non-slip paint around the pool.

But Mr Andrada said that not only would the aquatic centre be ready for a test event next month, despite concerns from swimming's governing body, all stadiums would be ready.

"Rio as a city and as a structure, we are 90 per cent ready," Mr Andrada said.
