Opening door to success
SKILLED migrants can now be more confident they will land a job in the Australian workforce in their chosen profession.
A new course at Kingscliff TAFE promises to give new migrants the skills, confidence and contacts to fulfil their chosen careers in their new home country.
Skillsmax Jobseekers students Kizito Ngandu and Beatrice Ngoy fled the Democratic Republic of Congo, where they were lawyers, seven years ago and spent six years in Zambia as refugees.
The couple immigrated to Australia this year and are keen to practice law and enter the Australian workforce as qualified professionals.
In the past year they have completed Certificate 2 in English for Speakers of other Languages, and are now undertaking a Certificate 3 in English for Further Studies.
“Studying English at TAFE has not only helped me with my language skills, but I have met many people from many different backgrounds,” Mr Ngandu said.
“I am looking forward to the Skillsmax Jobseekers course as it will be an opportunity for me and my wife to learn some additional English language skills that we can use in our professional lives.”
Head teacher of general education at Kingscliff TAFE, Sharon Lane, said the course will enable Mr Ngandu and Mrs Ngoy, and other skilled migrants, to develop a greater awareness of workplace culture and trends in the Australian labour market.
“This course is for skilled migrants seeking employment in their
chosen profession,” Ms Lane said.
“Students will develop a career portfolio, prepare for interviews, as well as identifying employment opportunities.
“It is a fast-track course that will prepare qualified professionals to enter the Australian workforce.”
The five-week course begins at Kingscliff TAFE on May 25.
