Opening doors to Burleigh Heads
THE doors of Burleigh Heads were flung open on Saturday with decorated doors covering Memorial Park.
The Open Doors project was an exhibition of decorated doors with each door telling a story about a service or business in the Gold Coast community.
Supported by Divisional councillor Greg Betts through his community development fund, the concept came about when community feedback showed people wanted to learn about services available from sources other than the Internet.
“An invitation to community groups, artists and schools was issued, asking them to decorate, design, accessorise or paint a door to share their story,” said Cr Betts.
“The result is 34 doors of all shapes and sizes – car doors, house doors, and garage roller doors – that represent a wide range of community resources, including artists, Indigenous people, children, collective committees, young people, government, seniors, sports groups and animal welfare groups.
“I know the entrants have been working over the past couple of months to complete their door.”
Cr Betts thanked Gecko, Burleigh Resene Colour Shop, the Community Development Office, Jess Hardy of J Photography and Art and Vintage Retro Fashion on James Street for their generous support of the project.
