Orlando massacre: Wife failed to call authorities
THE Orlando gunman's wife could face charges after it was revealed she failed to call authorities despite knowing her husband planned an attack.
NBC News has reported that Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Zahi Salman, told the FBI she was with him when he bought ammunition and a holster.
She also reportedly told the FBI that she once drove him to the gay nightclub, Pulse, because he wanted to scope it out.
The television report says Mateen's wife had tried to talk him out of the attack.
It was unclear whether she knew the specifics of what her husband planned or the scale of it.
A total of 49 people were killed and 53 injured when Mateen opened fire in the Pulse nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
There are still 27 people in hospital with six in a critical condition. Hospital authorities say the death toll could still rise.
Mateen's wife is said to be co-operating with authorities who will decide whether to charge her over failing to call police ahead of the attack, the worst mass shooting of its kind in the US.
Mateen, 29, has been married twice and was the father of a three year old boy.
He was born in New York to Afghan immigrants.
