P-plater caught doing 144kmh

A P-PLATER'S licence was suspended after he was caught doing 144km/h on the Pacific Highway on Saturday night.
Police said the 17-year-old from Alstonville was travelling northbound near Sleepy Hollow about 6.50pm when he was caught.

His licence was suspended for six months and he received a large fine.

Drink and drug drivers targeted

GOLD Coast Police targeted drink and drug affected driving over the weekend in a bid to reduce road trauma.

Operation Palm Olive took place on the southern Gold Coast and included officers from Palm Beach, Coolangatta, Broadbeach and the Gold Coast Traffic Branch, as well as the State Traffic Task Force and Random Drug Testing Unit.

Coast police officers punched

TWO Gold Coast police officers were allegedly repeatedly punched in the face while conducting breath tests on Saturday.

The officers were in Surfers Paradise about 9.30pm when the passenger of a taxi allegedly got out with a case of beer and a skateboard and began abusing them.

He allegedly resisted arrest, punching the male officer three times and the female officer twice after placing her in a headlock.

A 28-year-old Labrador man will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
